Dinner Tonight - December 15th - Saving money to repair a car

Tonight was breakfast night.  We had blueberry pancakes (from the freezer after I made too many a couple of weeks ago), eggs, sausage patties and some fresh pineapple.  I am cutting back on what I eat so I skipped the sausage and had smaller portions of everything else.

As for my son, Wednesday is when our church youth group meets and he eats at the church.

I have been using food from our freezer and pantry as much as possible and I have discovered that I haven't made much of a dent in my freezer.  I really had that thing packed with food.

I went to the store today and purchased some food items that we really didn't need to have in the house.  Lately for some reason I have been craving pop so I purchased 2 twelve packs of diet cola.  I purchase pop during the holidays as a treat, but when it is gone I probably won't purchase anymore.  I also picked up a few of my favorite Weight Watcher entrees to have on hand during the holidays when I need a better meal choice for myself.

Oh and with the money that we are saving from eating from the freezer and pantry, it will go towards the $500 deductible on our car insurance as our 17 year old son had an accident today on the way to school.  He started to slide and couldn't stop his car from hitting a stone gate at the local cemetery.  Thankfully, he wasn't hurt and he called me right away.  The bumper took the brunt of the damage.  The roads are snow covered and icy here and he was being careful, but sometimes when you hit a patch of ice there isn't much you can do.

Poor lad he must have got an awful fright, $500 excess is pretty steep, but the main thing is he is OK.

It will be interesting to know when that freezer of yours starts to empty out. Have you given any thought to how much it,s going to cost to restock it ? Will you do it slowly or have a big spend as buying in bulk is way cheaper??

Yeah, he's okay, and we all handled it quite well. Our oldest son had two accidents while on our insurance, so I know that accidents do happen.

As to the freezer, when I have used up about half of the contents, I will start to look for weekly deals on meat. That will probably happen in late January. If there aren't many deals, I still have meat in the freezer to use up.

I have come to realize that living in the Midwest of the United States has brought with it great food deals. Perhaps it is due to the fact that I live in a state that is the biggest corn producer in the country and is very big on farming.

I always have added to my freezer a little at a time when I encounter great sales and deals.
